The new cost of driving a van into London

If you drive and old van into London, with the introduction of the Ultra-Low Emission Zone as well as the cost of the congestion charge it can be an expensive business.

The daily charge for the Congestion charge is £11.50 and for the Ultra-Low Emission Zone which hits older less efficient vehicles this is £12.50 a day.

If you are driving into London 5 days a week for 48 weeks a year this could be £5760 a year.

So what is the answer?

Pay the charge, don'r work in London or get a new van!

Newer low emission vans that are Euro 6 compliant do not attract the Ultra-Low Emission Zone fee giving a possible saving of £3000 a year.

If you take into account the cost of a new van on a finance agreement over a 48 month period this can be less than £15000 + VAT over the 4 year period and doing 20000 miles per annum (based on Ford Transit Custom 300 L2 FWD 2.0 TDCi 130PS Low Roof including ply lining).

If you then factor in reduced fuel cost due to more efficient engines and reduced servicing costs of a newer van the cost is the same or less than the cost of the Ultra-Low Emission Zone fee.

The hidden savings of a more reliable vehicle that also looks better to a potential or existing employer or customer and why wouldn’t you take a look.
